The Vision
Sitting between vibrant South Melbourne and the growing Fishermans Bend precinct, The Canopy community are set to be spoiled with high-value, high-use amenities, and seamless connections to both green nature and the buzzing inner city.
This project has been designed to anticipate the requirements of modern life. Within the residences, elements that are genuinely beneficial to residents have been front-and-centre – including natural light, cross-flow ventilation, green views and interactions with nature, down to the colours and materials that create a sense of a calm.
Beyond being home, it becomes a private oasis with the works – including a communal podium, balcony garden bowls and rooftop with barbeques, dining areas, fire pits and onsen spas – to gather with friends and neighbours, or to enjoy peace and solitude.
Eco Innovations:
The Canopy will set the scene for a sustainable, liveable, connected and innovative future, featuring:
- Induction cooktops in residences (no gas)
- Open balconies to every apartment
- Carefully selected materials, inc. low VOC paints
- Electric vehicle charging stations
- Rainwater harvesting
- Solar panels and renewable energy
- Ground Source Heat Pump (GSHP) to reduce hot water bills and space heating
The Inspiration:
As a place that draws inspiration from the Traditional Owners, The Canopy will encourage the community to engage with nature and native plants, with motifs honouring the Bunurong people.
Under the lush canopy of the adjacent Johnson Street park, this project has been guided by biophilic design principles – focusing on a connection to nature, reducing stress, and increasing health and happiness in communities.
The architecture takes reference from the historic Dunlop factory that once occupied the site on Normanby Road, with its industrial edge softened with lush foliage. Even at 20 floors high, the building’s colour palette connects harmoniously with nature.
What we’re excited about:
The Crema team are proud to be building a low-carbon community. The Canopy achieved a 5 Star Green Star sustainability target and 7.5 Average NatHERS rating.
It features the first Ground Source Heat Pump (GSHP) in a residential project ever done in Melbourne. The energy-efficient technology utilises thermal properties of the earth as a stable heat source to provide heating and cooling into the residences. At The Canopy, it is also used to generate domestic hot water from a renewable source, creating a significant reduction in hot water bills within residences and communal areas.
With the ecology of the people and the planet all in sync, we’re ready to lay the foundation for a healthier future for all.
